Who We Are
Catholic Guardian Services (CGS) was the first Catholic family foster care agency in the United States. We are CARF accredited and remain one of the largest foster care providers in the state of New York, serving more than 750 children and their families annually throughout the New York City area. Supporting families is at the very center of our mission.
What We Do
We provide community-based family foster care services, working with foster parents who open their homes to youth who have been placed in the child welfare system, as well as group homes for adolescents, many of whom have behavioral needs or who may be raising children of their own. All of our foster families receive specialized training to provide holistic, trauma-informed support for children. We also offer comprehensive case management, crisis intervention, medical, and mental health services to all children and families that we serve.
Who We Work With
CGS Foster Care Services works with the NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) to assist with providing foster care services to the children of NYC when they are unable to remain safely at home.
Our Goal
Our primary goal is to achieve permanency for each child as quickly as possible. Each child’s family is engaged and involved with our social services staff to develop solutions that empower parents and children to reunite safely whenever possible. When that is not possible, we work with foster parents around adoption, and with kinship foster parents around adoption or kinship guardianship.
We Are Catholic Guardian Services
It is our vocation to serve those in need, to aid those who desire help, and to guide those who seek better lives. Through supportive interventions, we provide help, create hope and preserve dignity.
We provide help by offering an array of services for underserved families and individuals with special needs. All that we do is delivered with care, compassion and respect, to address fundamental challenges, improve well-being and increase self-sufficiency.
We create hope by strengthening and empowering families and individuals in need. By providing shelter, care, treatment, rehabilitation, counseling, training and connection to high quality allied services, we produce holistic solutions that enhance each person's physical, mental and social well-being, as well as their positive connections to family and community.
We preserve dignity with a faith-based commitment to recognizing the value of each person we serve, regardless of race, religion, creed, or life circumstance.
